    Re: GC vs. Coeburn?

I just think some of you GC fans can't believe Coeburn actually gave the mighty Blue Devils a good game, so you want to blame the refs as the reason why the game was so close. You guys have a great basketball team and played to win there is no denying that but if the game was so one sided why did we have so many fouls and you all didn't? I think the first half of the game was called very well the second half was more questionable but I don't think it was all one sided in Coeburn's favor by a LONG shot.

    Re: GC vs. Coeburn?

i don't think anyone from gate city was expecting to blow out the number 2 team in the district

also...will the tired argument that we came down to dominate in single A ever stop?

    Re: GC vs. Coeburn?

In reply to "all of you are just pissed cause we have a team that can run with yours and it kills you inside...ya'll drop to single A so you can dominate and think your good and then someone comes close to beating you and you whine..." I think that a record of 74-6 since returning to the LPD IS DOMINATING, and since Coach Vermillion took over GC has had only ONE loss to a LPD team (PV by 2 last year). And he has NEVER been COY but that's another story,

I think you need to tell Broady & Quincy that, given their responses.

And allow me to correct Skeptical on something--it wasn't 31 fouls to 5 in the first game, it was 31 free throw attempts to 5 in GC's favor for the entire game.

GC--as I said--didn't get the benefit of going to the stripe nearly as much, and it was a tight game--JUST LIKE I SAID IT WOULD BE--if the free throw discrepancy wasn't as wide in GC's favor. The first win that GC had at Coeburn was decided by that one stat. This game was decided by the 3 GC three pointers (one to end the 3rd Quarter and 2 to start the 4th), and Coeburn's drought thereafter...having to try to climb back in it while GC ran their offense through--wasn't so much freezing the ball as it was they ran their offense well...it was good basketball. They didn't just stand there and hold it during the 4th.

That being said, GC now knows that Coeburn can compete with them. They left from Coeburn earlier in the year knowing that Coeburn couldn't beat them---now, they know that Coeburn definitely has the capability to beat them...with or w/o Parks. I was actually waiting on that excuse from a lot of the GC fans in attendance--not you VTH22--but from a lot of people on the GC side. Why was he out anyways? Late for practice? Grades? Injury? If it was injury he didn't look too injured to me, jumping up and down on the bench playing cheerleader.

Just to share a couple of reactions from Coeburn players: One player told me that the refs specifically said in the captain's huddle at center court pre-game that they wanted both teams to play defense with their feet, not their hands. When the hand checking was not getting called--and let's face it, there was a lot more than hand checking that went on last night...there was at least 5 fouls I can look back to that were called on a Coeburn player b/c a GC player came by and pushed him into his teammate. Anyways...when the hand checking didn't get called, one of the players that heard this from the refs pre-game asked the ref why he wasn't following through...he said the ref just looked at him and walked away...that tells me a lot. Also...another Coeburn player brought up a good point--you never see GC's players get chippy, throwing elbows or pushing on other players, unless they know they're being threatened on the scoreboard. That happened a lot last night.

Either way--good game by both squads--most exciting game I've been to this year. And just like we told your student section when they came over towards our bench--we'll see you guys again either in the LPD or Region tourney--maybe both.
